Who We Are
Welcome to Gateway Fellowship, SBC, one of the most exciting places on earth! Founded in 1943, as First Baptist Church of Gilbert, Gateway Fellowship began with a handful of people and a goal to reach the small town of Gilbert with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The first church building was located in downtown Gilbert.
Since its beginning, Gateway Fellowship has seen periods of increase and periods of decline, as the town of Gilbert remained a quiet suburb of Phoenix. Then in 1991, the church began to see God move in a unique way. With just a few members remaining, Pastor Larry Deskins began his ministry as Senior Pastor. Within months, the few had become many, the church needed to add a second Sunday morning worship service.
New people, new ministry, and changed lives added up to overflowing facilities, and the search began for acreage on which to relocate the church. Finally, the current property was purchased, facilities were designed, and the members of Gateway Fellowship began to give and sacrifice of time and finances to build.
Today the campus of Gateway Fellowship exists as a testimony to God's provision. Upon moving to the current location, First Baptist Church Gilbert adopted the trade name of Gateway Fellowship, SBC in order to help fulfill its original purpose. While the location and name have changed, the message remains the same and increase continues.
